Terni

The Terni hydroelectric Complex extends over a vast area in the provinces of Terni, Perugia, Rieti and Macerata. It consists of 16 hydroelectric power plants, 3 reservoirs (Salto, Turano and Corbara), and 1 pumping plant. It utilizes the waters of the Nera, Velino and Tevere rivers and their tributaries.

The plants have a total of 38 production groups for an efficient power of 530 MW and are managed from a "Remote Command Post” at Villa Valle. On the average, the complex produces 1,400 millions of kWh/year (with peaks of 2,000 million kWh).

The complex employs 70 persons in the command post of Villa Valle and peripheral operating sites of Galleto, Baschi, Narni, Cotilia and Preci, located near the production facilities or close to the major water works, such as the seven dams and its related reservoirs.

Environmental protection
Umbria is by definition the “Green Region”. For the Terni Complex this means a close link to land, nature, landscapes and all sports activities associated with water. The area boasts many natural wonders, such as the Marmore Falls or the Piediluco Lake, but also environmental jewels like the WWF Oasis of Alviano.

Following the ISO 14001 certification, the complex obtained the EMAS registration on July 12th 2006, with no. I-000538, and each year it publishes an Environmental Declaration.

The future of the Complex
On 2011, after about three years of working, 11 hydroelectric units of the Complex were renovated. It calls for the replacement of 26 turbine-alternator groups and for the renovation of the automations of the Galleto-Monte S. Angelo, Cotilia (Salto, Canetra and Peschiera off takes), Sigillo, Preci, Triponzo, Ponte Sargano, Monte Argento, Narni, Nera Montoro (Stifone offtake), Baschi and Alviano units by bringing installed power up to 702 MW.
