Ostiglia

Picture: Ostiglia

The thermoelectric power plant of Ostiglia is located in the town of the same name in Mantua province, on the left bank of the Po river.

Previously powered by a mix of fuel oil and natural gas, it was transformed in March 2005 to combined cycle gas with three CCGT (combined cycle gas turbine) modules of 384 MW each. Each module consists of a turbogas section and a turbine-alternator group that runs off the steam produced by the heat of the combustion gases of the turbogas unit. A traditional 330 MW thermoelectric section is also present, with a steam turbine.

The total installed power of the plant is 1,450 MW.
Environmental protection
The production site is EMAS-registered with number IT-000355 and has an environmental management system that conforms to UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 standards, certified by an accredited environmental certifier (Certiquality).

November 2011  the power plant has obtained the OHSAS (Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series) certificate, which recognises an international standard for safety and health of the employees. The OHSA 18001 certification guarantees the application of a management system able to reduce the risks of the employees and suppliers. Moreover it verifies and assures the respect of the policies and improves the safety performance.

The transformation to combined cycle improved efficiency to 55%, versus 39% in the previous cycle, with consequent environmental benefits such as zero powder and sulfur oxide emissions and a drastic reduction in nitrogen and carbon oxides.

The emission values, in turn, are continuously monitored and recorded by an emission monitoring system (EMS) and periodically reported to the control authority.
