Livorno Ferraris

Picture: Livorno Ferraris
The Livorno Ferraris thermoelectric plant is located in the town of that name in Vercelli province. Owned 75% by E.ON and 25% by BKW, it was opened on September 12th 2008 and employees 30 persons.

It is an 805 MW combined-cycle plant with two turbogas groups and a turbine-alternator group powered by the steam produced by the heat of the effluent gas from the turbo at a temperature of 560°C. The gas passes through a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), enabling the plant to work at high efficiency with low environmental impact. That is because CCGT (combined cycle gas turbine) means, first of all, producing electric power with overall plant efficiency of 58% and relatively low greenhouse gas emissions.

The plant is fed by gas from the SNAM national network, through a pipeline spur 600 meters long. The power plant has been the  first inaugurated by E.ON in this country.

Environmental protection
The power plant is located in the rice-growing region of Vercelli. The delicate ecosystem in which it operates has imposed strict environmental requirements, achieved with the help of intense monitoring of air, water and noise, to enforce legal limits and to characterize the design and execution of certain construction activities. The visual impact is also limited, thanks to a cooling system with forced-air condensers and smokestacks incorporated into an architectural project that even makes the power plant aesthetically appealing. The visual impact will further benefit from the growth of tree barriers planted around the plant.
