Energy mix

E.ON promotes a broad energy mix that includes all energy sources with their strengths for the purposes of climate-friendly, affordable and secure energy supply. This is reflected in the concept for E.ON's future electricity generation, with which we want to meet coming challenges.
By 2030 we intend to reduce our specific CO2 emissions by at least 50 % compared with 1990. To achieve this goal, we want to produce our electricity in 2030 with an energy mix which is over 50 % CO2-free: with the aid of nuclear energy having a share below 20 %, with CO2-free coal-fired power stations having a roughly 10 % share, and with renewables, whose share we intend to increase to almost 25 % by then. The other half of our electricity generation will be CO2-reduced by the use of highly efficient coal and gas-fired power stations.
Italy already is a highly developed European energy nation with fine options for the future. E.ON therefore is very pleased to play an increasingly active role as a reliable partner in the further development of Italy's energy mix. An energy mix that is as broadly diversified as possible also has cost advantages. For example, compared with countries like Germany which rely not only on gas but also on nuclear energy and coal, the Italian spot price for electricity is in some cases well above German spot market prices.
E.ON is therefore – apart from its commitment to strengthening the Italian gas market – glad to act as a reliable partner in the further development of Italy's energy mix.
