2000
The birth of E.ON Italia coincides with the liberalization of the Italian energy market. In fact, E.ON Italia began furnishing energy in 2000, first to major industrial customers. Since then, the group has acquired and formed numerous companies and acquired equity investments in Italy with a presence, today, divided into several assets.
E.ON Italia Produzione was formed in 2000, for the purpose of producing electric power in Italy. E.ON Italia Produzione started construction on a combined-cycle power plant at Livorno Ferraris, Vercelli.
2003
In 2003 Thüga Italia was created, the Italian branch of Thüga AG, an E.ON company with large equity stakes in industrial partners and minority shares in numerous German public utilities. Over time, Thüga Italia has acquired many small-midsize companies involved in the sale and distribution of gas.
2004
In February 2004 E.ON gained authorization to operate on IPEX, the Italian electric power exchange.
2005
After various operations, the five companies distributing natural gas in Italy were merged: Thuega Laghi, Thuega Mediterranea, Thuega Orobica, Thuega Padana, Thuega Triveneto.
2006
The merger of Co.Gas Vendita, Deltagas Energia, Metanifera Prealpina Com, Metanifera Sommese Vendita, Metano Impianti Energia, Padana Com., S.E.I. Gas Vendita and SIMA.COM resulted in the formation of E.ON Vendita.
In December 2006 E.ON acquired a 75% equity stake in Dalmine Energie.
2007
In November, the stake in Dalmine Energie was increased to 100%.
2008
January
The E.ON Group generates E.ON Italia S.p.A., the group company for the Italian market.
June
On 26 June 2008, the acquisition of 80% of Endesa Italia made E.ON one of the principal players in the Italian energy market. Endesa Italia thus became E.ON Produzione, the generation division of E.ON Italia.
July
The five Thüga distribution companies were rebranded, taking on the names E.ON Rete Laghi, E.ON Rete Mediterranea, E.ON Rete Orobica, E.ON Rete Padana, and E.ON Rete Triveneto.
On 18 July 2008, the Monfalcone and Calabria power plants were ceded to A2A in exchange for its 20% equity stake in E.ON Produzione. This transaction was concluded on 1 July 2009.
September
On September 12th ,2008, the Livorno Ferraris power plant was inaugurated. The plant is a combined cycle power plant with an installed capacity of 805 MW.
October
1 October 2008: another integration step was taken with the conversion of Dalmine Energie into E.ON Energy Trading S.p.A., nucleus of the new trading company in Italy.
December
On 1 December 2008, E.ON announced it was acquiring the remaining 50% of MPE Energia S.p.A. from Fineldo, the holding company of Vittorio Merloni.
E.ON Vendita, through a merger with E.ON Energy Solution, created E.ON Energia effective 1 January.
2009
December
E.ON Rete has been created out of the companies: E.ON Rete Laghi, E.ON Rete Mediterranea, E.ON Rete Orobica, E.ON Rete Padana, E.ON Rete Triveneto.
In the power plant of Fiume Santo (Sassari) the first photovoltaic power plant of E.ON Italia has been started, with a capacity of 1,4 MW.
2010
April
The generation capacity in Italy has been further enforced by the opening of the combined-cycle power plant of last generation of Scandale, in Calabria, with an installed capacity of 814 MW, 50% E.ON share and 50% A2A share.
June
E.ON and Suez signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the development of nuclear power in Italy. A first step of the two companies who confirm this way their interest to participate actively to the development process of this source in the Country.
August
An agreement with the Sardinia Region regarding the development of photovoltaic farms has been signed.
October
Construction of 4 new photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of 16,3 MW in various regions of Italy started: Carosin (Taranto); Frugarolo (Alessandria), Costa de Nobili (Pavia) and Nepi (Viterbo).
“Casa Onna”, the first permanent social aggregation center of Abruzzo, newly built after the earthquake, has been opened by the German Embassy with the support of E.ON Italia and other German groups operating in Italy.
