Environmental Declaration

The realization of the Environmental Declaration is a prerequisite for obtaining EMAS certification, which acknowledges that the environmental targets for power plants have been met. The document demonstrates the commitment of E.ON to the environment and the territory. It provides clear data regarding the company’s environmental footprint and shows the progress being made towards ever-higher ecological standards.

Fiume Santo

In 2008 the Fiume Santo power plant achieved the significant goal of reducing its heavy ash output by 50% on the previous year.

The demolition of the old production units (nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4), built in the 1950s and ‘60s, was concluded by year’s end 2008 and involved, among other things, fully removing all asbestos caulking materials. Forthcoming operations are set to carry out environmental reclamation, in full collaboration with local authorities, which aims to partially transform the area into woodlands.

Terni

The plans for revamping the production group, which started in 2008, represent an important project to increase energy efficiency and to extend the life cycle of production facilities. These plans will have a strong impact on environmental targets as well, involving both the adoption of oil-refrigeration systems which will further reduce the risk of contaminating water destined to be pumped back into reservoirs and the reduction of noise emissions.

Ostiglia

Following modifications to the gas turbine combustion systems, with the introduction of DLN 2.6+ technology – effected in 2008 – the power plant was ahead of schedule in adhering to the most restrictive emissions limits set by the Regione Lombardia authorities. The same modifications allowed the units to work more efficiently and therefore to completely satisfy market demand for electricity.

Trapani

The Trapani power plant took further steps this year towards improving its ecological accountability by opening its doors to schools and the local community. Beyond looking to reduce its environmental impact, various projects, which will greatly improve the site itself, are currently under evaluation.
