Nuclear Power

Nuclear power plays a significant role in the global energy mix. Because nuclear power results in no carbon emissions, its importance will increase going forward.
In many countries, nuclear power represents a substantial component in the energy mix and will continue to do so in the future. A number of countries, up to now opposed to nuclear power, have now rethought their position on the matter and have launched plans for a new generation of nuclear power plants. The U.K. government has decided to launch a major program to build new nuclear capacity. Around the world, 34 nuclear power stations are under construction, with many more in various stages of planning.
Nuclear power is with 15 percent an important part of E.ON's energy mix. With availability factors of over 90 percent, our nuclear power stations are among the most reliable and productive.
Since summer 2008 nuclear energy has also been part of our technology initiative innovate.on. The objective is to advance the cutting-edge 1,250 MW boiling water reactor (BWR) in cooperation with Areva.
